HUMAN RIGHTS AND YOUTH WORK : FROM FAR AWAY CONCEPTS TO DAILY PRACTICE

Seminar

3-8 December 2023 | Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium - FR

We work with young people on participation, citizenship, discrimination… Is this work linked to access of young people to their fundamental rights ? If these issues trigger your curiosity, come and discuss them with European colleagues.

When we work with young people on participation, citizenship, fight against discrimination… we are tackling the Human Rights. Are we aware of it ? Is our work linked to the improvement of access of young people to their fundamental rights ?

If these issues trigger your curiosity, come and let’s discuss them with European colleagues.

The general objective of the seminar is to reflect on the youth workers/social workers’ awareness on the link between their work and HR.

Sub-objectives are :

  • To explore and discuss Human Rights concepts, contexts and challenges
  • To clarify the relationship between youth work and Human Rights education
  • To relate our daily educational practice to these concepts and challenges
  • To open opportunities for new partnerships or new international projects

These 4 days will be a European journey through a reflection on our daily practice and approach, and the link which exists with Human Rights and the fact that we eventually are not aware of it, even sometimes afraid of these “big words”.

Profile of participants:

We are looking for (over 18) youth workers, social workers, volunteers or youth project coordinators linked to a structure or association working directly with young people, and with a multiplication capacity inside their local/national networks. You should also be ready to meet potential partners for eventual future projects. Able to work in English.

The facilitators are Laura de Witte (Portugal) and Bernard Moreau (Belgium)
