The Youth of Europe's Rocks
A seminar on the perspectives of young people living on Europe's islands on their identity, participation and the EU
This seminar will attempt to understand young people living on Europe’s islands in terms of their cultural identity, their participation in society and their perspective of the European Union.
The aims of the seminar are:
• To develop a better understanding of young islanders’ opinions on their identity, participation and vision of EU
o To establish whether they have a specific cultural identity
o To reveal their opinion of the European Union
o How and to what extent do they participate and are active in their society
• To encourage and strengthen future cooperation and participation in the Youth in Action Programme of young people living on Europe’s islands
Who is invited:
• young people
o who live on an island* as well as the islands belonging to the other countries that are part of the YiA programme)
o who can communicate in English (the seminar will be in English – no translation will be provided)
o who would like to share their experience, have an interest in actively participating in the seminar and in YiA in general, and aim to implement further activities in the future
• youth workers/leaders
o who are accompanying young people to the seminar
o who work with young people on islands*
o who would like to share their experience, have an interest in actively participating in the seminar and in YiA in general, and aim to implement activities together with young people in the future
o who can communicate in English
A maximum of total of 45 is expected. In principle the youth workers/leaders would to about a third of the whole group.
The seminar will be conducted entirely in English. The programme is attached.
