TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
http://trainers.salto-youth.net/SosthneDeshoullires/
I'm a trainer based in Marseille, in the south of France. Since 2018, I design and facilitate non-formal learning activities in France and abroad. I specifically work on the topics of Gender, Sensitivity Towards Diversity, Youth Participation and ESC/E+ projects management.
I strongly believe in the importance of non-formal learning, collective processes, and I'm more and more exploring self-directed learning processes.
From 2024, I'm participating in the SALTO Training of trainers.
Sosthène Deshoullières has 3 references for past work as a trainer.
Trainer and Projects coordinator
From September 2024, I'm participating in ToT (SALTO) and will develop in partnership with the French National Agency a Training Course on "Gender-based approach in mobility projects" (ESC/E+).
Since 2018, I'm working as mentor, tutor, projects coordinator, trainer in an organisation accredited for both E+ and ESC projects.
Between 2021 and 2022, I have conducted a research project on Gender Equality within ESC/EVS programs.
In terms if recent training activities, to give an overview, since January 2024 I have been part of the team for:
1 - International Training Course “Mentors I” (Lefkosia, Cyprus - 9 days - January 2024), as a co-trainer. Training course aimed at developing competences for new mentors of ESC volunteers, with an introduction to the model of competences for Youth Workers, and exploring tools for mentoring. This event was a part of a broader sequence “Making Magic in the Kingdom of Volunteering”, aimed at improving the quality of ESC projects, designed and organised by a consortium of international trainers : Panayiotis Theodorou, Markus Rebitschek, Corina Pintea, Salvi Greco and myself.
2 - Mid-term training for long-term ESC volunteers (Marseille, France - 5 days - March 2024), as a trainer and coordinator of the event. Hors Pistes, as lead organisation, coordinates the hosting of around 30 or 40 ESC volunteers per year, which allow us to develop our own training courses twice a year, at the arrival and at the mid-term. My role was to design these trainings in complementarity with the seminars organised by the french NA. The specific objectives of this mid-term training were : allow the volunteers to develop and facilitate non-formal education based workshops in their hosting organisations (methods of facilitation, support to create their own workshops) and to work on valorisation of their projects : recognition of learnings, evaluation of the impact from the volunteer’s perspective, planning on future projects. The training was co-facilitated by myself and 3 colleagues from Hors Pistes.
3 - Training course on ”Interculturality, Sensitivity and Diversity” (Arles, France - 2 days - April 2024). This training is organised each year for the students for DEJEPS (future facilitators, trainers, project managers in the fields of youth work, non-formal education, and sport) with the objective of enhancing a critical reflexion on the youth worker’s approach towards identity, interculturality, diversity, and to identify and work on the stereotypes, bias and microaggressions in the field of youth work and non-formal education. This training was co-facilitated by myself and one colleague.
Formal educational Background :
I studied Journalism in Dakar (Senegal) for 2 years between 2015 and 2017, Social Anthropology (France, 2017-2020) and Gender Studies (France, 2021 - 2022).
Non-formal educational background :
1_ SALTO Training of trainers (2024-2025). I'm currently exploring the beautiful world of self-directed learning, dealing with ambiguity, working in new international team and more than all : being challenged and having a deep reflection on the sense of my own practice.
2_ My volunteering in Hors Pistes, 7 years ago, when I discovered non-formal education, European projects, non-profit organisations, and a big bucket of positive values. Before, I was working in a private company, selling insurances and hunting-specialised magazines. You can easily imagine how opening this door changed my entire life and perceptions of working, education, and society. I had the chance to participate in youth exchanges, to contribute to the democratic life of the organisation, to learn better English, to work in an international environment, to question my values and perspectives, and thousands of other learnings which are still today an ongoing process. I had the chance in the end of this experience to get a position of projects coordinator and trainer, even though at this time I had more or less any specific competences, but I learned throughout the years with my colleagues, and then I was able to support other learners.
3_ In 2021 I participated in an international training course called “Sensitivity, diversity : differences challenge our assumptions”. This training course was very, very challenging for me, because I had to constantly shift perspective and question myself about my deepest values. The trainer was really aiming to make it (positively) uncomfortable for us. I learned so much about myself, my visions and perceptions, that today I’m still thinking about certain discussions we had there, sometimes. Also, I discovered a specific topic which is today one of my favourites to work on. I re-used a lot of pedagogical contents from this training, and implemented related-activities in various contexts such as youth exchanges, local trainings, ESC seminars…
