The Summer Camp brought together around 70 activists from conflict regions and was framed under the theme community organising. In three parallel running working groups, the participants spoke about Workers' Right, Education and Gender. The main aim was to enable the activists to work together beyond the conflict itself.
We had participants from Germany, Israel & Palestine. The educational team was composed of four people from Austria, Germany, Spain and myself (Germany/Israel).
Non-Formal Education methods solely, depending on the skills of the trainers in the educational team, in their own working groups. To include all participants in the discussions, regardless of existing language barriers and experience, we made sure to use creative methods as well as small groups and translated terms/texts.
The participants got empowered to engage in community organising. Many described the opportunity to speak about the conflicts through another topic, learn from others about their activism and society.
As the pedagogical coordinator, I have designed the entire educational programme, recruited the international educational team and paired the trainers with the members of the project team, according to interest and skills. I was the main coordinator of the event together with the organisational coordinator, and was responsible for the forming and communication between all different teams, consisting volunteers only. I have led the Educational Team meetings, as well as the meetings with the volunteers, morning announcements, and having my own reflection group each evening. I was responsible for the team dealing with confidential / safer space issues, which included building and facilitating the introduction workshop as well as the masculinity reflection mid-week. My responsibility was the general overview of team and participants, mentoring and assisting in cases of conflicts.
