Training for Trainers in the Field of Youth Participation

Aims & objectives

The main aim of the project was to strengthen youth participation through improving young leaders and youth workers competences in non-formal education methods.
Objective:
• improve participants’ professional skills of holding and facilitating non-formal educational events;
• increase youth participation through non-formal education;
• develop youth-work competences, including youth with fewer opportunities; create a plan for organizations' development in the sphere of youth participation;
• share successful practices of youth projects/educational programs in the sphere of youth participation
• develop initiatives and projects for realization after the training course.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Participants: 24 NGO youth leaders and youth activists from Ukraine, Georgia, Latvia, Armenia.
Team:
3 trainers (Latvia and Ukraine)
1 local coordinator and technical staff.

Training methods used & main activities

To fulfil the aims and objectives of the training course, the space based on the main principles of non-formal education was created, where the participants had opportunity to develop competences, necessary for working with young people for youth participation, to assess their own strengths and development fields, as well as to have a safe learning environment to try out and to evaluate own training styles working in teams with the other participants.
Based on the needs assessment of the participants, a certain amount of the programme time was devoted to sharing experiences and best practices in working with specific topics and target groups, developing new partnerships and ideas for future use in their daily practice, as well as discussing problem situations the participants are dealing in their local realities, being involved into youth work, promoting and strengthening youth participation via various projects and activities.

Outcomes of the activity

- first international training experience for many participants
- first hands-in experience in developing training session in multicultural team, with feedback from the peers, and opportunity to use developed workshops back home with own youngsters
- in-depth assessment and self-assessment of each participants' competences as youth trainer and youth leader, including identification of areas for potential growth
- several new partnerships and project ideas developed in the end of ToT

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Full time trainer for 9 days, with responsibilities of developing of the concept and the programme of ToT, delivering and evaluating the programme, also mentoring and providing feedback for participants' personal and professional development, and reporting.

I worked on this training for 9 days as a full time trainer.
