Training Course: Taking Action against Hate Speech through Counter and Alternative Narratives

Aims & objectives

The training course will develop the competences of youth workers and educators to develop
with young people counter and alternative narratives to hate speech. The course objectives
include to:
- Develop participants’ competences to use counter and alternative narratives to combat hate speech
- Develop participants’ competences in using the manual ‘We CAN’
- Develop proposals for off-/online initiatives to integrate use of counter and alternative narratives in the European and national campaigns
- Strengthen the campaign response to hate speech through human rights education by integrating the use of counter and alternative narratives
- Increase the use and dissemination of the manual ‘We CAN’ in national campaigns of the No Hate Speech Movement
- Reflect on the use of the manual ‘We CAN’ and possibilities for its further development

Training methods used & main activities

The training made extensive use of non-formal methodologies. The team used RPG (such as "Narratives in Sleepyville"), mapping exercise and the tools included in the WE CAN Manual (developed by the Council of Europe).

Outcomes of the activity
