Training Course for EVS mentors

The training activity took place
in Borovets, Bulgaria
organised by Bulgarian National agency of the Youth in Action programme
19 – 22 June 2008

Aims & objectives

AIMS OF THE TRAINING COURSE:
• to deepen understanding and recognition of the roles of mentors in sending and hosting EVS organisations,
• to understand the learning processes in EVS projects,
• to deepen skills, knowledge and methods for mentoring,
• to strengthen partnerships for even better quality of EVS projects.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING COURSE:
• to define roles of mentors in sending and hosting EVS organisations,
• to understand complementarity of the roles of mentors in sending and hosting EVS organisations,
• to differ the roles of co-ordinator and mentor in EVS activity,
• to explore the importance of motivation in mentoring,
• to present a set of concepts and tools to increase the mentors' capacity to support the learning processes of EVS volunteers,
• to support the active participation of everybody involved in the learning process,
• to introduce resources and support systems useful in mentoring.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

An international group of 14 participants from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece and Malta.

Training methods used & main activities

Non-formal educational tools were used including games, icebreakers, working groups, presentations, simulations, reflection, role games, etc.

Outcomes of the activity

Increased understanding of the roles of coordinator, supervisor and mentor in an EVS project
Acquired and developed new skills for better mentoring process, intercultural communication, conflict resolution

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Designing, delivery and reporting of the training.

I worked on this training for 4 days as a full time trainer.
