Aims & objectives

This training course is for organisations looking to develop practical skills and knowledge in the principals and methods of outdoor education to support wellbeing and to use these in the delivery of youth exchanges.

Objectives:
This training will focus on integrating nature and the outdoors into your youth work practice.
- To explore outdoor programmes using nature connection principles. and their potential to provide positive physical, social, and developmental outcomes for young people.
- To look at outdoor activities such as forest walks & spending time in nature in an engaging way to support wellbeing such as mindfulness, reflection, building resilience and creative practices
- To develop practical skills in using nature connection principals and how would you apply them to achieve learning outcomes and how these can be incorporated into Youth Exchanges.
- To support youth workers in understanding how to develop inclusive and sustainable outdoor programmes that have a positive experience for all young people
- To gain a better understanding of Erasmus+ Youth Exchanges and develop relationships with peers involved in similar youth work across Ireland.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target of the activity were youth workers and youth leaders as well as European volunteers based in Ireland at that moment.
We were two trainers from Ireland.

Training methods used & main activities

Outdoor activities; learning by doing of survival skills in the woods; group discussions, team work, etc.

Outcomes of the activity

Outcomes:
- Increased awareness of the evidence - based benefits of nature connection practices and the use of the outdoors for individual and collective wellbeing.
- Gaining an understanding of how to apply the newly acquired competences into local youth programmes and European Youth Exchanges (E+)
- Increased awareness of inclusive practices and sustainability within their work.
- That the participants have developed a stronger peer network.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Programme design in team with my co-trainer, facilitation and follow up of the learning process with the participants.

I worked on this training for 4 days as a full time trainer.
