T – STEY: Training for Starting Trainers in European Youth work

Aims & objectives

Aim of the training course:
The main aim of this course is to enable participants that are STARTING trainers to competently prepare, run and evaluate training activities with an international and/or intercultural dimension.
We focus on the priorities of Youth in Action, taking info account the reality in which the European Youth work now is working.

Content of the training (and objectives):
- to provide basic trainer competencies (communication, facilitation, presentation...)
- to enable participants to see logic of training methodology and to build it in a training (red line, flow, NAOMMIE)
- to raise awareness about, and to provide a framework for learning and training styles
- to raise understanding about the connection of group dynamics in a training methodology
- to share and to discuss about methods and techniques
- to raise awareness and share ideas about the priorities of YiA (European youth work) – why and what we can do about them

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

23 participants from 15 countries selected and supported by NA´s of YiA program. NA´s should support participants who have potential to be a trainers and they are willing to work with them and use their potential in the future.
Team was of three nationalities: Slovak, Czech and Belgian.

Training methods used & main activities

Methods used:
Energizers, Discussions, Group Works, Simulation games, Role plays, Presentations, brainstorming, Practical part run by participants....

It was a lot about interaction. Training as such should be as an example for participants how to do training so we focus also on wide range of methods and techniques to be used during the training.

Outcomes of the activity

From the final evaluation there was general satisfaction with results. By participants we have reached our objectives by 86,9 % and fulfillment of expectations was at 85,2 %. Team also agreed that participants managed to understand principal elements of training methodology and some of them we followed also after the course. We also got recently feedback (after almost 1 year) from one of the participant that it was very useful and practical.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I was one of the full-time trainers in the trainers team.

I worked on this training for 6 (11 with prep, eval and follow up support for pax) days as a full time trainer.
