Step Up Yourself Youth in Action Project (RO-43-E077-2012-R3)

The training activity took place
in Brasov, Romania
organised by Asociatia Connections
20-28 May 2013

Aims & objectives

This project addresses two major aspects: promoting learning mobility of young people and enhancing skills acquirement and recognition. Considering the European context of education and more specifically the context of the lifelong learning, the need to continuously develop skills and competences for young people is of vital importance. One method for attaining this purpose is by offering young people training opportunities. At the European level, also transferred at national levels, we have identified some problems and issues from our daily work in a European-based organization which are correlated to our formal academic experience:
• the lack of extracurricular activities for students involved in academic or non academic work;
• the lack of special competences, abilities and attitudes besides the formal academic ones attained from the academic curricula which do not fully contribute to young people's expression of their opinions and do not help them to put into practice their ideas in a non- formal way;
• the lack of interactions and exchanges between major student-led associations at national and European level.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

At this training course participated youth from:
Romania
Switzerland
Turkey
Greece
Latvia

Training methods used & main activities

I used non-formal methods as:
Presentations, demonstration, team-work, mentoring, personal development exercices.

Outcomes of the activity

The activities related to the project were also enriching participants with a portfolio of skills that will prove useful in their youth work in multicultural environments, increasing their employability opportunities. Finally, the learning process and the new competences equiped young participants with means for effective decision making in their daily life, at personal level, but also in their community life. I led participants into designing strategies and future projects to spread the social benefits (intercultural awareness, fight against racism and xenophobia, containment of social exclusion of students) gained through the associative life.
