Participation, Initiative and Non-formal Education

Aims & objectives

The aim of the training was to introduce the different stages of the Ladder of Participation and the forms to pass over from lower to upper stage through the perspective of crucial youth issues. The focus of the training was to further develop participants’ awareness on the following stages of the Ladder of Participation – Assigned and Informed, Consulted and Informed, and Adult led, decisions are shared with young people.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

An international group of 27 participants coming from Poland, France, Portugal, Romania, England, Italy and Bulgaria.

Training methods used & main activities

Non-formal educational tools were used including games, icebreakers, working groups, presentations, simulations, reflection, role games, field work, meeting with local authorities, outdoors activities, etc.

Provided information of the Ladder of Participation
Increased understanding of the stages of the Ladder
Understanding of formal, non-formal and informal learning
Awareness and recognition of youth NGOs role as non-formal educators
Understanding of Active citizenship - how to be part of your community's life, different forms of participation and involvement
