TOY - Trainers Online for Youth

The aim of this training course was to develop youth leaders’ and youth workers’ critical awareness of the meaning and understanding of ‘participation’ in different cultural contexts and realities in this way contributing to ‘participation’ quality in the Youth in Action projects.
More specific objectives were:
•To reflect and share participation concepts and practices in different cultural contexts and realities of Europe through the exchange experience in the international group;
•To learn tools and methods for critical analysis of interconnectedness between culture and participation;
•To get knowledge on different participation concepts in order to develop informed understanding of participation;
•To evaluate participation culture critically by analyzing own projects, organization, community and society;
•To explore values behind the idea of participation and establish the connections between personal, organizational, cultural values.
•To develop contacts and ideas for projects / practices which considers participation seriously
The team consisted of Nerijus Kriauciunas from Lithuania me and Gulesin Nemutlu from Turkey. The group consisted of participants from EU countries and Turkey, however many of the with a diverse migration background.
We worked with concepts such as Identity, Culture, Media, Citizenship, Systems Theory, Cybernetics. The methods we used were such as Theater of the Oppressed, Participatory Observation, Appreciative Inquiry, etc.

Me and Nerijus Kriauciunas initiated the idea of the training course and proposed it to the Turkish NA. We shared the tasks of designing, delivering and evaluating the activity.
