Aims & objectives

The primary goal of the "Media Influence in Youth Work" training course was to teach youth workers how to shoot, edit, and distribute online videos. The project empowered youth workers and youth leaders with the necessary skill set and knowledge for them to collaborate with youth in creating online video content carrying strong social messages, capable of potentially leading to significant social change. A particular emphasis was placed on developing ways to encourage youth video projects that promote equity, social cohesion, active citizenship, and other European values. A secondary goal was to aid youth workers in understanding the media landscape, youth interaction with modern technology, and the mechanisms of "fake news".

The project addressed the need for youth workers to acquire practical digital video skills to effectively collaborate with young people on creating impactful online social content. It also aimed to meet the need for youth workers to better understand the contemporary media environment, including phenomena like "fake news," to guide youth more effectively.

The training course supported the goals of participating organisations by enhancing the digital competencies (video production, media literacy) of their youth workers and leaders. This capacity building allowed the organisations to implement more innovative youth work projects, effectively promote European values through media, and increase their outreach and impact, with participants prepared to act as multipliers within their organizations.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group for this training course consisted of 31 youth workers, youth leaders, activists, and active members of youth organizations, with participants mainly aged between 18 and 40. Candidates needed to be able to work in English, be active learners available for the full duration of the course, motivated to participate fully, and willing to share their new knowledge as multipliers within their organization and community upon return.

The training course involved participants from 9 countries: Germany (Host), Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, and Poland. Each country was represented by 3 participants.

Training methods used & main activities

This Training Course focused on developing youth workers' skills in using online video for social messaging and understanding media influence. The program involved teaching practical skills in shooting, editing, and distributing online videos, alongside sessions exploring the media landscape and "fake news". Participants were guided in developing video projects promoting European values.

The training utilized non-formal education principles aimed at empowering participants with practical skill sets and knowledge for collaborating with youth on online video content, delivered in English.

Outcomes of the activity

Participants acquired the skill set and knowledge needed to shoot, edit, and distribute online videos for social messaging. They gained the ability to collaborate with youth on video projects promoting European values such as equity, social cohesion, and active citizenship. The training also enhanced their understanding of the media landscape, youth interaction with technology, and the issue of "fake news". Participants committed to acting as multipliers of the knowledge and skills obtained.

Success can be measured by the participants' acquired practical skills in video production, their enhanced understanding of media literacy concepts, and their effective engagement as multipliers sharing the learned practices within their work contexts after the training.
