Aims & objectives

The primary goal of the "MEDIA CULTURE IN YOUTH WORK" training course was to teach youth workers how to shoot, edit, and distribute online videos. The project empowered youth workers and youth leaders with the skill set and knowledge necessary for them to collaborate with youths in making online video content carrying strong social messages, aiming to lead to significant social change within communities. A particular emphasis was placed on developing ways to encourage youth video projects that promote equity, social cohesion, active citizenship, and other European values. A secondary goal was to aid youth workers in understanding the media landscape, youth interaction with modern technology, and the phenomena of "fake news".

The project addressed the need for youth workers and leaders to acquire practical digital video creation and distribution skills to effectively engage with young people online. It also focused on the need for youth workers to understand the contemporary media environment, including aspects like "fake news," to better guide young people.

The training course provided youth workers, leaders, and activists from the participating organisations with current digital skills in video production and media understanding, enhancing their ability to conduct impactful youth work, promote European values through engaging media, and share knowledge as multipliers within their organisations.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The target group for this training course was 31 youth workers, youth leaders, activists, and active members of youth organizations, primarily aged between 18 and 40. Participants needed to be able to work in English, be active learners available for the full duration of the course, motivated to participate actively, ready to share their experiences, and willing to act as multipliers by sharing their newly acquired knowledge within their home organizations.

The training course involved participants from 9 countries: Germany (Host), France, Romania, Poland, Portugal, Estonia, Spain, Lithuania, and Latvia. Each country was represented by 3 participants.

Training methods used & main activities

This Training Course focused on teaching youth workers practical skills in online video production (shooting, editing, distribution) and understanding the media landscape, including "fake news". The activities involved developing video projects with strong social messages that promote European values like equity, social cohesion, and active citizenship. The working language was English.

The training aimed to empower participants with practical skill sets and knowledge necessary for collaborating with youth on online video content.

Outcomes of the activity

Participants acquired the skill set and knowledge necessary to shoot, edit, and distribute online videos. They gained the ability to collaborate with young people on creating online video content carrying strong social messages and promoting European values. Participants also developed an understanding of the media landscape, how youth interact with technology, and the phenomenon of "fake news". The training aimed to develop participants into multipliers who would share the acquired knowledge within their home organizations.

Success can be measured by the participants' acquired ability to produce and distribute online social videos, their understanding of the media landscape as outlined in the project goals, and their capacity and willingness to act as multipliers of this knowledge within their organizations and communities.
