The training activity took place
in Rome
organised by Forum Nazionale Giovani
13-16.10.2014

Aims & objectives

The focus was on the setting of a Guiding Framework to launch a consultation of young people across Europe on the theme of "youth empowerment for political participation".

The Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union hosted the EU Youth Conference. The focus was on the setting of a Guiding Framework to launch a consultation of young people across Europe on the theme of "youth empowerment for political participation".

The EU Youth Conference also debated the promotion of young people's access to rights as a meaningful way to enhance youth autonomy and participation in social life, in line with the overall theme of youth empowerment for the trio-presidency countries (Italy-Latvia-Luxembourg).

The priorities that the Italian Presidency aims to analyze in the youth sector are:

promoting youth employment - in order to guarantee fair treatment and equal pay and encourage young people's ability to achieve autonomy;
improve welfare - by strengthening social, welfare and health services that meet the specific needs of young people and support their autonomy;
fostering the political and social participation of young people and their inclusion in decision-making processes;
to support the recognition of youth work as a fundamental tool for promoting youth autonomy and access to rights, increasing financial support for initiatives promoted by young people or youth organizations and promoting the recognition of non-formal and informal education.
reduce gender differences in youth policies and discriminatory practices against young people (eg in the housing sector, access to credit, health care, provision of services and education);
increase access to information on the rights young people have as European citizens, investing in human rights education and the development of an intersectoral policy.
