TOY - Trainers Online for Youth
This is a reference for Árpád Bárnai
Training course for youth workers, social workers and others who are working with young people in transition from childhood to adult and who are asking themselves how to support young people in a more holistic way.
The course participants were people working with young people: youth workers, social workers and youth leaders who are working with young people in transition between childhood and adulthood.
The participants came from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finnland, Iceland, Italy, Hungary, Malta,
The approach and methodology was based on non-formal education principles.
We combined different types of experiential learnning activities, discussions and sharing of experiences – including, for example, rites of passage/ rituals deriving from different cultures, outdoor activities. We also used methods that support peer-to-peer learning and ones which support self-directed learning.
We managed to create a ground and common understanding about what is meant by “transition from childhood to adulthood”.
We also raised attention to emerging issues that we may come across when working with young people in transition (like ambiguity, our being role models, identity…)
We reflected on the way we deal with the 4 dimensions (bio - psycho - social - spiritual) of personal development in our work.
There was space to discover and share tools, ways, activities, methods… to support young people in their transitions.
We explore what changes we can make in our work as youth workers to support young people in transition processes.
As a member of the trainers' team I was mainly responsible for outdoor activitites, safety and some graphic facilition. We as a team though created the program together and the whole process was co-created.
