This Training Course aimed to teach Youth Workers the method of Digital Storytelling, which is a way of empowering people by supporting them to share their personal life stories with the help of digital means of expression. Digital Storytelling helps individuals and communities to grow and bring a positive change in their lives. Through this project, we aimed to help people to tell a story which they are proud of, a story they want to share.
The digital world is similar to the galaxy in the way of its complexity. We understand that there is not one single approach, one single way to go through the obstacles; however, we believe that storytelling provides us with very delicate tools to make our journey more sensible, reflective and joyful, and that it brings better awareness about ourselves and the world around us.
26 youth workers from 9 countries gathered for the same goals. These countries are: Poland, France, Lithuania, Italy, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine and Moldova.
Target group of the activity were Youth Workers, who would learn the methodology of Digital Storytelling and use it in their daily work with young people in their local communities.
All the methods used during the project were entirely based on the principles of non-formal education. Main method of the training was Digital Storytelling, which is a way of empowering people by supporting them to share their personal life stories with the help of digital means of expression. After getting to know each other, ice-breakers and name games, participants were introduced to this methodology. They generated ideas for digital stories during the creative exercises in smaller groups. After which, they started script writing, followed by recording voice, collecting visuals, editing and making final corrections.
We helped participants to tell a story which they are proud of, a story they want to share. We did that through a group process, where the participants were heard and respected, and where they also themselves learn to listen. We used simple and free tools, to keep the method open for everyone no matter what economic and cultural resources.
The training course was dedicated to learning the methodology of digital storytelling. Our participants not only learned how to tell a personal story through creating a video, but they also learned how to open up in front of a group of people they have not met before. Therefore, besides professional skills, they also learned personal life lessons. During the training course, youth workers acquired the necessary skills for promoting the methodology of digital storytelling in their own communities, helping their own people to grow. Thus, this project managed to help our young social activists to spread the knowledge acquired further.
