Aims & objectives

I was invited as an expert to train a group of young primary school teachers on what is gamifiction and how to use it in primary school education. It is a small school that is committed to active and innovative teaching methodologies.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

16 teachers under 30 years old participated in the training plus the owner and director of the center. They were all from Romania and covered all areas of primary education.

Training methods used & main activities

I created a card game featuring important figures in 20th century Romanian history as an initial icebreaker activity. I explained to them what gamification is and the steps to gamify. One day I was giving multiple examples of real and successful gamification, including the subjects that I teach at the University. I also gave training on ICTs used for gamification.

Outcomes of the activity

The students had to present a gamification proposal in pairs for a specific course. I worked in small groups giving feedback to each group. I currently advise the school on gamification issues.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

I was the only trainer of this formation. I prepared all the material needed for it. Currently, the center is working on gamification in some subjects and ages.

I worked on this training for 5 days as a full time trainer.

Testimonial of the reference person

Azael Herrero offered a week training for the young primary school teachers in Lorelay School, on the methodology of gamifying a teaching subject from the primary school curricula. It was a very practical training, with a lot of examples and tools to be used in gamification. The teachers had to propose the gamification of one of the subjects they teach and currently we have integrated this methodology in our school curricula, under the supervision of our trainer, who is the mentor counselling the good practice in the school during this school year.
The pasion for his trainings and work is encouraging the trainees to apply the knowledge and motivates them to continue and improve.
