Umitkoy Engelli ve Yakınları Yardımlaşma Derneği is an NGO which was established for the disabled people to be integrated in the society, have some handicraft skills, provide them rehabilitation facilities and for the families of the disabled people to bring them together, find solutions to
their problems and to meet their needs. Training course aimed to raise awareness in the society for the people who would like to be volunteers to work with the disabled people. The training course provided them competences and skills to spend fun and useful time for the disabled people. Therefore they would be able to develop motor and cognitive skills as well as they will be easily integrated with the society.
The participants in this training course were from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia, Spain, Ukraine and Turkey. Some of the participants were the volunteers who work with disabled people, some of them were young people who would like to work with disabled people and some of them were both volunteers and trainers who work with disabled people. Some of the participants held a session as a trainer and delivered a tool they use with disabled people.
The training course is based on Non-Formal Learning methods. The participants learning was mainly learning by doing. In the training course there were also other trainers who were experts on disability. In this training course I held the following sessions: get to know each other, introducing the aims and objectives of the training course, volunteering in Europe and Turkey, icebreakers and evaluations. In volunteering session, I delivered the participants some analytical references about volunteering in Europe, terminology of volunteering by lecturing. After that participants were divided into groups and brainstormed how to raise awareness in the society to be volunteering for the disabled people. I also provided the necessary materials for the other trainers' sessions.
Participant had information about general information about volunteering in Europe, voluntary organizations and volunteering in Turkey. With the new competences, the participants were able to have competences on magic, twisting balloons, semolina art, beading and Ebru art which were held by the other trainers. I was the trainer and the facilitator in this training course. I organized the sessions and helped the other trainers from Germany, Spain, Belarus and Ukraine to deliver their sessions.
