Exploring Cultures

The training activity took place
in Bettistown, Italy
organised by Youth Work Ireland
March 4th - 11th 2006

Aims & objectives

a training course (action 5 YOUTH Programme) about Identity and Culture following an approach ranging from the personal level, to the group / national / international dimension.

The course included some theoretical inputs on the studies so far, outdoor experiences, an approach based mainly on experiential learning and group dynamics, discussions and the cycle Act/Plan/Evaluate/Reflect.

I was one of the trainers (a team of 3), responsible mainly for the inputs on Identity and Culture, facilitating discussions, evaluation activities, taking care of some of the administrative work.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The group was composed of 30 participants from a wide selection of European countries. The participants selection has been a massive procedure starting from the over 300 applications!

Training methods used & main activities

Non formal education methods, mainly with a mix of outdoor education + indoor methods, and a good balance between creative activities and discussions, group works and reflection.

Outcomes of the activity

The course had a definite impact on participants and their organisations back home. Proof is that there have been two more editions of the same concept course: in Italy (december 2005) and Lithuania (march 2007)

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

Responsibilities were shared among the team.
Besides, I had more specific tasks oriented towards the inputs (on culture, identity and group theory) and workshops on the same topics.

I worked on this training for 7 days as a full time trainer.
