A high number of young people are now looking for solutions and answers. Some are finding them in internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, local volunteering and of course, in the European Voluntary Service. Youth`s motivations for going on a volunteering Service abroad are very diverse, but a lot of them hope that an EVS experience will increase their chances of finding a job when they return home.
This project “EVS for Employability” wants to find the answers to these questions. It will involve 38 participants, 7 countries who through an intensive 9- day seminar held in Örkelljunga, Sweden between 22.11.2015- 30.11.2015. The participants were mainly people involved in coordination of EVS projects in their organisation or have played a key role in the implantation or organisation of EVS projects.
Through debates, teambuilding activities, interactive activities, drama and working in small groups the group became more aware of the advantages of EVS projects as well some areas that need to be improved. With guest speakers also, it gave an open and inspiring talk which developed the groups way of thinking and encouraged a more critical way of thinking.
Through the seminar we discussed and mapped out solutions for youth unemployment. We came up with practical solutions to the challenge that may occur within EVS and worked together on the following toolkit. It provided at least the possibility to youth workers active in EVS projects throughout Europe to share their tools and knowledge that they have used to improve the quality of their EVS projects in terms of raising the employability of their EVS volunteers and within a framework for sharing best practices.
