Aims & objectives

The aim of this training course was to empower youth workers, youth leader and multipliers with competences on integration and citizenship, which they can use within their projects and practices; and to support their role as multipliers developing initiatives integrating young people from different cultural backgrounds in the strengthening of civil society.
Objectives :
• To support the development of youth worker and youth leaders by extending their competencies to integrate elements of European citizenship within their projects
• To practice and support youth workers and youth leaders as multipliers of active citizenship
• To reflect about European citizenship, European identity and related values such as human rights, democracy, the rule of law and intercultural competences
• To develop a shared understanding of effective youth participation and explore the value and role of youth work and youth organisations in promoting youth participation
• To provide participants with knowledge and information about relevance of the actions/means of European year of citizens
• To promote and facilitate the active use of programs and structures in support of youth work on European citizenship
• To prepare the field for future collaborations including projects with a local impact and within the frame of Youth in Action programme

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training course ''Europe for all'' was a 7 days training course which gathered 22 youth workers, youth leaders and multipliers willing to support the development of youth NGO's in Europe by extending knowledge and competences to integrate European Citizenship within youth projects. The project brought together participants coming from Croatia, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, Malta, Greece, Romania, Poland, Latvia and Turkey.

Training methods used & main activities

The methodological approach to training is based on the concept of experiential learning and included a variety of methods (individual work, small group work and plenary discussions, simulations, exercises, theoretical exposure). The process of training was focused on the participants. Active and interactive methods have helped balance individual and group learning process, taking into account the different preferred ways of learning (eg learning through practical experience or theory, or while planning new activities). Training was based on practices. The experiences of participants were one of the main sources to learn and most of the methods and exercises was directly related to existing practices.

Outcomes of the activity

The participants acquired new knowledge on citizenship and democracy. They also acquired knowledge on new methods they can use for working with youth and promoting principles of active citizenship.
