ESN Autumn Training 2017 - Social Inclusion & Migration

The training activity took place
in Maribor, Slovenia
organised by Erasmus Student Network - Eduk8 Project
7-12th November

Aims & objectives

The content focused on basic concepts related to migration and the causes and consequences of the European Migration Crisis. This training fostered the creation of solutions concerning the inclusion of refugees into their local communities. The target organisation is ESN (Erasmus Student Network) and its members are international students who work with international people on a daily basis. Therefore, participants created solutions to apply in their local communities through ESN.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The organising team that was responsible for the logistics was mainly from Slovenia. Regarding the training, the mentors were from Austria, Bulgaria and Portugal. My co-trainer was from Hungary. Regarding participants, there were 14 people from all around Europe: Hungary, Czech Republic, Serbia, Sweden, Poland, etc.

Training methods used & main activities

All the training activities were based on Non Formal Education methods and followed the Kolb Cycle model of learning. Several techiques were used, such as role plays, videos, world café, discussions, brainstormings, simulations, etc. There was also a 2 hour outdoor session.

Outcomes of the activity

The main outcome was a tool kit created by participants which included several ideas about initiatives that foster the inclusion of refugees in their local communities. By the end of the training, participants were very satisfied because they achieved their goals for the training and their expectations were met, this information was collected by a feedback questionnaire.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

My tasks as trainer was to co-design and co-deliver a four-days training about Migration & Social Inclusion, which I did together with my co-trainer (Roland) and with the feedback of the ESN Eduk8 Mentors (Inês Moreira, Nasko and Lukas).

I worked on this training for 4 days as a full time trainer.
