ESC On-Arrival Training

in Coma-Ruga, Spain

Aims & objectives

The goal of the training was to give newly arrived ESC volunteers information and tools needed to have a successful ESC experience in Spain. Topics covered included rights and responsibilities, communication, conflict resolution, team-building, providing a background in Spanish culture, benefits of volunteering, learning to learn and goal setting for their ESC experience.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

The training team consisted of 3 trainers from Spain and and 27 participants from Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

Training methods used & main activities

The training aimed to provide a balance between content (input) and active participation and therefore included a variety of methods such as discussions in large and small groups, role play, reflection and assessment individually as well as in pairs or groups, theoretical input and simulations.

Outcomes of the activity

The training achieved the objectives stated above resulting in better ESC experiences, more visible impact on the local communities and the personal development of the volunteers.
