The Emotionally Equipped training course aimed to equip youth workers with practical tools, methods, and knowledge to support the mental health and well-being of young people in their communities. This training addressed the growing need for mental health awareness and resources in the youth sector. The programme aligned with the goals of the participating organizations by fostering personal development, promoting mental health and enhancing the capacity of youth workers to create safe, inclusive and supportive environments for young people.
The training brought together participants from various European countries, including Hungary, Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Portugal, Bulgaria, Iceland, Slovenia, Greece. The target group consisted of youth workers, educators, and community leaders, actively engaged in supporting young people.
The training utilized a range of non-formal education methods:
* Interactive workshops: Participants explored concepts such as mental health stigma, resilience, and emotional regulation through role-playing, group discussions, and hands-on activities.
* Artistic methods: Techniques with creative painting, rople playing and movement exercises helped participants connect with their emotions and understand mental health topics on a deeper, personal level.
* Experiential learning: Activities like the "Ambiguity Walk" and "Painting Game" allowed participants to reflect on personal and professional challenges, fostering empathy and self-awareness.
* Reflection and sharing: Daily debriefing sessions and guided self-reflection helped participants internalize their learning and consider how to apply it in their work.
The Emotionally Equipped training course achieved several key outcomes:
* Enhanced competencies: Participants reported improved skills in active listening, emotional regulation, and supporting mental health in youth work, including crisis management.
* Increased awareness: The training raised awareness about the importance of mental health and provided practical tools for addressing related challenges.
* Collaborative outputs: Participants developed creative resources, such as infographics, podcasts, and methodological guides, to disseminate the training's outcomes within their communities.
* Stronger networks: The training fostered connections among youth workers across Europe, encouraging future collaborations.
As the lead trainer, I was responsible for designing the program, facilitating sessions, and evaluating outcomes. My tasks included creating a safe and engaging learning environment, delivering workshops, and providing personalized support to participants, if needed.
