Activity and Visibility II – from personal to public communication

The training activity took place
in Crikvenica, Croatia
organised by Forum for Freedom in Education

Aims & objectives

General aim of the training course was:
• to improve skills of youth workers, trainers, project managers and teachers in interpersonal, intrapersonal and public communication which can be applied in the work with young people

Specific objectives were the following:
• to learn new communication models;
• to improve knowledge in communication techniques towards public and in personal relations;
• to introduce public relations tools and methods;
• to develop journalism skills and article writing skills;
• to encourage participants in active engagement, primarily through the dissemination of information through media, public relations techniques and through raising awareness of their own communication towards others;
• to implement learned methods directly during the training course;
• to learn how to prepare a set of communication materials which can be used in everyday work of youth workers.

Target group & international/intercultural composition of the group & team

Team of trainers was consisted of three trainers.

An eight day training course brought together 30 people who work with young people from eight European countries – Croatia, Greece, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Italy and Romania.

Training methods used & main activities

The training was based on usage of non-formal methodology. During the training course a combination of different interactive methods where used, which included the following: icebreakers, getting to know each other methods, KWL method, discussions, debates, journalism workshop, communication workshops, individual work and counseling, presentations, theoretical input, personal reflections, group reflections, video exercises, public speaking exercises, evaluations – daily, creative, written and group evaluation.

Outcomes of the activity

Participants:
• are aware of their own communication styles;
• know why conflicts and every day life occur and how to resolve them;
• know methods of resolving the problem through communication;
• know how to define and understand the Basic concepts of public relations;
• can make a clear distinction between marketing, advertising and public relations;
• understand and apply the techniques of public relations in their organizations;
• are equipped to implement learned methods in a real environment;
• can prepare their own communication toolkit;
• are able to organize internal and external communication;
• are able to manage social networks for the purpose of promotion and publicity;
• became source of support and information to their colleagues, general public and the media.

Your tasks and responsibilities within the team

My responsibilities included:
• design of the program and methodologies;
• delivery of the sessions during the whole training course;
• further help with inquiries, communication via e-mail and providing additional materials for participants.

I worked on this training for 8 days as a full time trainer.
