Exercise
Human rights tree is team-activity which helps participants to introduce themselves to human rights in more convenient and attrative manner.
- To introduce participants with basic or some specific human rights, identified in any of human rights documents (e.g. Universal declaration of human rights, EU Charter of Fundamental Rights)
- Develop participants creativity, visualising and presentation abilities.
First of all, participants divide in to small groups and are asked to draw a tree on a large flipchart paper.
Later they:
1) write on the tree (in the form of leaves, fruits, flowers, or branches) those human rights that they thought all people need to live in dignity and justice
2) A human rights tree needs roots to grow and flourish. Participants give the tree roots and they label them with the things that make human rights flourish. For example, a healthy economy, the rule of law, or universal education. Later when drawings were completed, each group presented its tree and explained its reasons for the items they had included.
Later we go further:
participants get acquainted with some of human rights documents (which is aimed to analyse during the workshop). Participants receive some of human rights document to review and to strenghten the knowledge.
Then they match the fruits, leaves, and branches with articles of the human rights document they analyse and the number of the article next to each item.
