Description of the tool

First of all you should divide the participants in groups of 5/6 people and give to each group a plastic bag for trash in a different colour with a pair of scissors, a roll of tape, a tit of cotton therad, and about 10 sticks for skewers.
Tell to each group that they have 40 minutes to built their kite using the material inside the bag; tell them that also the bag is very important to build it and to remind that the kite has a rhombus shape and what is important to allow it to fly is the tail of the kite.
They are allowed to make some flight tests and improvements to their kite so to be ready for the group competition!
In the attachment you will find a draft for the construction of the kite to have an idea about how it should be, anyway you shouldn't deliver it to the participants and neither give them more instruction that the previous ones. Let them discuss and create, they could also find some other suitable solutions ;).
After 40 minutes the flight competion will start: each group will choose one representative who will make the kite to fly, all the representatives will stay in a line and ... "3,2,1, GOOO!" they will make the kites to fly at the same time, the group whose kite will fly higher than the others will win!
After the competition you can facilitate a de-brieng, stimultating the participants to share thei impressiond and feelings: everybody participated actively? How did you choose the strategy to built the kite? How did you feel not having detaled instructions on how to built it? etc.
