The Partner-Finding Tool
KA152 (YOUTH EXCHANGE) Youth's European Journey: From Skepticism to Unity
Since 2020, the EU has faced numerous challenges, including Brexit, the COVID-19 crisis, and the Russia-Ukraine war. In response, the EU implemented the NextGenEU economic stimulus package, provided military and financial aid to Ukraine, and initiated accession negotiations with various countries. However, these policies have led to rising debt levels and political challenges associated with EU enlargement, contributing to an increase in Euroscepticism. This trend was confirmed by the European Parliament elections held between 6-9 June, where Eurosceptic parties gained a significant number of seats.
As a result, the EU Commission has prioritized addressing Euroscepticism and urgently convened to develop strategies. Governments, policymakers, and young people are keen to prevent the rise of Euroscepticism among the youth. The Laeken Declaration, a significant document in this context, supports the EU integration process and aims to make the EU more transparent and democratic. It emphasizes the importance of education and cooperation between EU member and candidate countries to ensure young people acquire social, civic, and intercultural competences, thereby promoting democratic values, fundamental rights, and social inclusion.
In the 21st century, growing Euroscepticism in European societies threatens the integrity of the EU and undermines fundamental European values. While Euroscepticism affects various demographics, young people are particularly vulnerable to its influence.
