The loss of cultural identity

The project aims to thoroughly study the traditions of young Roma people in our community and to try to bring back their somewhat lost cultural identity.

The project aims to thoroughly study the traditions of young Roma people in our community and to try to bring back their somewhat lost cultural identity. This identity proves to be difficult to retrieve because of the lack of information and young people willing to bring back to the forefront the essence of this culture. Although they have a beautiful and rich history, it has been largely overshadowed by modernity, and young Roma face difficulties in social and professional integration. Among the issues we face, we can list: the ethnic and religious diversity that constantly generates conflicts among young people, the socio-economically disadvantaged families they come from, the lack of information and often the lack of interest in the recovery of this culture, the diminishing number of youth workers and the training needs of the existing ones.
The project will be implemented in Iasi, Romania and will focus on participation in knowledge and sharing of Roma habits and traditions in 4 participating countries. Each country will participate with a group of 10 young people between the ages of 13 and 16 who will actively participate in finding a lost cultural identity and promote the so important and beautiful values of the Roma ethnicity. In addition, the most important gain will materialize in new friendships, but also in discovering new opportunities for their integration into society.
