CyberMentors Training: innovative peer mentoring targeted at tackling bullying as well as improving the wellbeing and life chances of children & young people.
Training of CyberMentors Across Europe
Our core programme, CyberMentors, is specially designed for young people aged 11-18 facing issues around bullying, child on child violence and wellbeing. It provides them with access to a community of online help, advice and support from both trained peer mentors and professional counsellors. This support is provided in real-time through our safe, bespoke website www.cybermentors.org.uk, using live chat and private messaging functionality. The site provides a tiered support system which ensures that young people can access the help they need. Young people visiting the site can choose to talk to someone their own age about the issues they are facing, or reach a counsellor directly. At any point our trained CyberMentors who are aged 11-25 can also refer a mentee to a counsellor, should they feel that they need professional intervention. Counsellors are online daily between 8am – 2am, and to reflect when the site and the demand for counsellors is at its busiest, two counsellors are available online between 6-11pm in order to deal with increased site traffic over these peak hours. We also have a dedicated safeguarding team who are on call to deal with any emergency interventions and issues of child protection. This team has taken life saving action on many occasions.
