One Note One Tribe

Jew harp, didgeridoo, overtone flute, kalimba, djambe, cajon and hand pan. Do these names sound strangelly and curiously? If yes – you are the one that we need!

NGO “Uztaisas” is looking for partners for great musical training programme that will take place in Lithuania.

“ONE NOTE - ONE TRIBE” is a training course for youth workers, teachers and anyone who works with youth to get to know and learn new activities for engaging young people in musics and musical improvisation/jamming. Music was a part of human evolution and social interaction since the beginning of culture and still unites and brings people together. However many people find playing music too difficult to start.
In this training we will introduce easy-to-learn instruments and create settings where people would engage into common musical play and jamming sessions that enable everybody to express themselves, feel affinity in a group and gain self-confidence.
We will concentrate but not limit on ancient and deep overtone instruments, which produce only one note. And all the variety of sound is made of higher harmonics (overtones) of the same note and mouth movement and breathing of player.

The aim of this training course is to empower participants to spread the great sound of overtone instruments and use it for jamming sessions. You will manage to make some of the instruments by yourself at the end.

You don‘t need to be a musician: overtone and world instruments are relatively easy to learn. The instruments are: jew harp, didgeridoo, overtone flute, kalimba, djambe, cajon and hand pan. Do these names sound strange and curious? If yes – you are the one that we need!

During this training course you will get to know what the sound’s physics, psychology of playing together, various rhythms, and freeing ones voice are. The course will provide great package of knowledge about different instruments, their origin, how to make them and how to play them. We also be taking part in improvisational workshops: playing, dancing, acting and singing. Also there will be visits to local folk musicians and craftsmen. And of course, lots of jamming, playing together, playing with professionals and playing with kids.

At the end of training, we all will have a chance to participate in the overtone music festival held in Indian tipi village in western part of Lithuania, close to Baltic Sea.

Participants don't have to be musically educated, but should share some degree of love for music. Of course, anyone with their own instrument is very welcome.

We will put our effort to look for at least one participant from each country who would also play at some reasonable degree easy-to-learn instrument so it would be easier afterwards to improve and implement playing/jamming in regions where participants would come from.

We will provide all the instruments, and will show how to make them or where to get them and will most probably give some to take with you home.

So we are looking for partners who would be interested in an idea, would love to enrich their music experience while sharing it with their local youth or community.

Participants: 30 (5 from each country).
Date: last two weeks of July 2017, 10 days in total.
