"In Other Ways" addresses global interdependences, the environmental and social impact of our lifestyles and motivates us to take action and make a change.
The project "In Other Ways" aims at developing consciousness among European youth workers about the importance of our individual choices in relation with the environmental and social impact of our lifestyles. It will focus on increasing their knowledge, attitude and skills to abandon the harmful path made of consumerism, exploitation of resources and lack of respect for other living beings that we all reiterate, often indirectly and unintentionally.
The main activity of the project will be a training for youth workers that will take place in Khorakhanè's premises in Abano Terme (IT), from 2 to 8 October 2016.
The motivation for this project comes from the increasing pressure of environmental issues, fossil fuel depletion, waste production and consumeristic mentality.
Since its establishment, Khorakhanè is committed to involve young people of the local community into initiatives that promote more sustainable lifestyles, recyling and upcycling of materials, urban farming, as well as attracting attention on problems such as migration and social inclusion of vulnerable groups.
With this training we aim at raising awareness about how our single decisions are tied - in this globalised world - into a complicated net of economic, social, environmental and political spin-offs and consequences. This net, bringing to the perpetration of inequalities and environmental degradation, can also be influenced positively if each one of us decides to adjust his own choices and to change direction.
The training will cover these topics:
global interdependences, climate change, eco footprint, sustainable development, ethical and unethical trade, migrations, energy, critical consumption, 3R principle and “Think global, act local” attitude.
The objectives are to:
- raise awareness about global interdependences
- promote the adoption of sustainable lifestyles
- motivate youth workers to act as multipliers in their own organizations in order to foster changes towards sustainability in the way they work and the activities they carry out
- inspire new workshops and initiatives dedicated to the topics discussed, in order to put these problems to the attention of citizens in the respective local communities
- develop and test a new simulation game which is now at a prototype phase, in order for it to be included in Salto Toolbox for Training and be reproduced in NFE workshops all over Europe.
