Green Roots

We want to focus on the environmental effects that La Palma has had after the fire and the eruption of the volcano that affected the island during 2021.

La Palma (Canary Island, Spain), characterized by rich biodiversity and vulnerable ecosystems, serve as an ideal backdrop for this exchange. The program's objectives include raising awareness about the local environmental challenges faced due to climate the island change, such as rising sea levels, increased temperatures, and biodiversity loss. Through interactive hands-on activities, participants will gain insights into the direct impact of global warming on island communities and ecosystems. As well, in light of the volcanic eruption that occurred on La Palma in September 2021, this European Youth Exchange takes on an added dimension of significance by addressing not only the broader environmental issues but also the specific challenges faced by the affected community on the island.

The exchange will facilitate intercultural dialogue, encouraging participants to share their diverse perspectives, experiences, and best practices in environmental conservation. Collaborative projects and team-building activities will promote a sense of shared responsibility and solidarity among the youth attendees.

Importantly, the program will empower participants to develop and implement community-based initiatives aimed at mitigating and adapting to the effects of global warming. Participants will also explore sustainable practices and innovative solutions that can be applied both locally and globally.

By the end of the exchange, it is anticipated that participants will not only have a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges faced by the Canary Islands but will also be equipped with the skills and motivation to be ambassadors for sustainable practices in their home communities. The exchange represents a significant step toward cultivating a network of environmentally conscious youth leaders who can contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future for Europe and beyond.
