House across borders is an organisation which aims to bring people together to think, work, and be critical about war and peace, human rights, Europe and humanity.
At the moment we already have 3 volunteers via the EVS system of erasmus+, but we would like to have 1 extra volunteer to start, if possible, in the beginning of April until the end of August. This means that this volunteer program is only for 5 months.
The EVS volunteers are welcome to organize and contribute on youth, school, cultural and artistic projects we organize. Through our volunteers we can offer more projects and get more guests at the cemetery and at our house. These guests will all be triggered to think and work with the themes mentioned earlier.
We want to see our youngster grow during their EVS time here at house across borders. It has a big impact on them, and some ideas/ plans can change for them, such as:
- they change their future study plans;
- they are more open to the possibilities in other countries;
- they can use their language skills in the future studies, work and live;
- they are more open towards other cultures, etc.. .
What does this volunteer program consists of?
- The volunteers will get the opportunity to experience life in a youth meeting centre, where a group accommodation is organized by a small team of enthusiastic people with a special goal, which is peace education. They also have the opportunity to learn how to set up a youth exchange, and how to help youngsters during a visit of an exhibition.
- The will learn about office work.
- They will learn about taking responsibilities for themselves.
The volunteers will help where ever is needed. This can be helping with the educational programs, helping with setting up a youth exchange, helping with our exhibitions, but also helping in the kitchen and with the cleaning. It is a nice mixture of work.
The volunteers will do different kind of activities:
- do special programs with the visitors, like guidance tours on the cemetery, energizers, workshops like 'faces of human rights';
- help the visitors of the cemetery;
- develop own projects and workshops for the visitors - especially youngsters;
- do research about the history of the cemetery and individual stories of soldiers that are buried here.
The working language is English, but you will have the opportunity to learn Dutch. Since the team working here is multicultural, you will get in contact with languages such as Portuguese, Spanish and German.
