The project is hosted on a small farm. We want to build sculptures together with local artists and in the meanwhile discover each others cultures.
The project "Europe in the backyard - Cultures make Sculptures" will be hosted in a small village in Thuringa/Germany in an old farmhouse from the 2nd till the 10th of August (APV: 13th till the 16th of June). The venue is very cosy and a family owned place in the middle of the nature. 4 countries will be involved with 4+1 participants.
Our target group will be unemployed youngsters and youngsters with migration background.
"Europe in the backyard - Cultures make Sculptures" wants to combine the pieces of culture in Europe to one piece of art. We want to organize a multilateral youth exchange around the topics diversity of cultures and sculptures. The aim is to show the enrichment of various cultures in the European continent!
Through the project the value of diversity will become visible in more than one way:
- Evaluation of the own country´s culture
- Identify sub-cultures due to migration
- Learn about other European cultures and subcultures
- Combine the cultures and subcultures through art
As art is abstract and relies on the subjective perception of the viewer, there is no such thing as failing: we therefore choose this media as a tool to allow youngsters to be creative infinitely without the fear of failure. Thus they can explore their skills and talents in a neutral and creative environment.
Another feature which makes the project very rich is the fact that the venue is an ecological farm in the middle of the nature. The participants will get to know an ecological lifestyle and get in touch with an environmentally friendly community life. The participants will cook with organic products and work with organic and environmental friendly material to build their sculptures.
The program will be as following:
Day1: Arrival of the participants
Day2: Group Dynamic Day
Day3: Workshops Intercultural Learning and Sculptures
Day4: Backyard Art – Concepts and Sculptures
Day5: Excursion
Day5: Making Backyard Art
Day6: Backyard Art Exhibition + Party
Day7: Departure of the participants
The sculptures will become part of the backyard of the farm. So they can be seen, visited and revisited anytime.
