In 2010 the European Commission placed the fight against poverty at the centre of his economic and social agenda: European Strategy 2020. They were agreed 5 common objectives by member states defining – among others - the headline target of reducing poverty and social exclusion by at least 20 million by 2020.
The strategy 2020 was born by the challenges raised by the economic crisis in 2008 that left millions unemployed and a burden of debt that today we’re still paying, bringing new pressures on our social cohesion.
Nowadays, even if the crisis seems to be at our back, in the EU-28 19.092 million men and women are unemployed in 2017 (rating 9,3%) and the Youth unemployment rate 19,7%: we’re still far from achieving the 75% employment rate stated by European Strategy 2020.
Moreover, there are new challenges that concerns our social cohesion: the wars and crisis spread from Middle East to Western Africa caused the increase of immigration inflows to Europe over the past two years (according to International Organization for Migration, just in the first half of 2017, there were 101.559 arrivals to Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Spain), presenting important socioeconomic challenges, such as multi-culturalism, racism, unemployment and xenophobia.
The proposal “EaSI – Europeans for Social Inclusion” is a two-level ERASMUS+ project, that fights against the pessimistic view of the current situation (which leads young people to social exclusion) and presents itself as a double chance:
- an opportunity to develop new skills in the field of youth working;
- a chance to develop new attitudes and behaviors in youngsters that can contribute to change the status quo and promote the intercultural dialogue.
Project methodologies used are to be non-formal education and peer to peer learning, promoting service design tools and bottom-up approaches, valorizing knowledge and experiences of the young people.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
- To contribute to create an EU society more inclusive
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- Improved the quality of the socio-educative animation of Youth workers
- Promoted the intercultural dialogue between youngsters as a way to include the migrants.
