The Partner-Finding Tool
Youth Exchange: Empowering young people to build a peaceful society. Tackling legacy conflicts which affect young people now, from a diversity perspective.
The Turning Point project is situated in Drogheda a large town in a border county (region) with the North of Ireland. Drogheda continues to experience fallout from the 'Troubles' in the North of Ireland. Following the Good Friday Agreement many of the atrocities of the 'Troubles' came to an end including bombings and civil unrest.
However dissident organisations continued to use their networks for organised crime. The predominance of Gang culture and the Drug Lifestyle in Drogheda are after-effects which pushed the town and its surrounds to experience levels of deprivation and conflict that negatively affected so many but was profoundly difficult for the Youth of the area.
The Projects and other measures (government, policy, & policing, and non government organisations) is helping to turn this around. The community is getting back on its feet and reclaiming its social spaces. Our youth project supported many young people who were negatively affected by these issues and some of them recently completed a qualification in 'Diversity & Good Relations'.
We are looking to partner with another organisation that supports young people to overcome adversity around trauma, conflict, diversity and inclusion or around legacy issues which impacted young people negatively. This will afford our groups to explore different approaches to similar problems and to explore solutions to these issues and how they can be the peace makers of the present and the future.
