Project’s aim is to reflect on civil society and civic participation and mainly on the ostracism and loss of citizenship under totalitarian regimes.
DEoDE is a project, which we intend to submit within the Programme Europe for Citizens - European Remembrances - next deadline March 2017
PROJECT IDEA: DEoDE-Decalogue of Democracy arises from the painter Ortega's pictures “Decalogo della Democrazia”, a constant engagement to civil commitment and a precious moral evidence. DEoDE strives to spread a new democratic message.
We are looking for partners who can provide witnesses of the totalitarian regimes that ruled in their countries and who can help us interpret the spirit of democracy and fight the ostracism and loss of citizenship that was common under totalitarian regimes. The project’s goal is to draw a lesson for today, which can be disseminated in the partners’ communities.
ACTIVITY PLAN
- Historical and iconographic research on José Ortega in Spain and Italy and particularly on the sites and events, including the tragic ones connected to the Francoist dictatorship in Spain. Particular attention will be given to the period, when the artist lived is exile in San Giovanni a Piro.
- Historical and iconographic research in the partner communities in order to collect witnesses on the totalitarian regimes, which have subjugated their countries.
- Film and photography exhibition on the collected documents.
- Meetings and workshops aiming to involve the partners’ communities.
- Creation and launch of a Web site dedicated to totalitarian regimes in Europe (and maybe in the world) to raise awareness on the similes and diversities of the partner countries’ experience. Some pages of the website will be on José Ortega and his work, highlighting the modernity of his thought.
- The Past as a reflection for the Present: The Decalogue of Democracy of José Ortega today: a renewed artistic issue by the participants and partners.
- Creation of a film/photographic/multimedia output to be launched on the occasion of the exhibition opening in Bosco (San Giovanni a Piro) at José Ortega Casa Museo.
- Promotion of the exhibition and dissemination of outputs and results of the research through all possible media.
