We are looking for 2 candidates from UK for an EVS project approved based in South Africa, one in Durban and one in Mafikeng. From 1st July 2011 for 12 months.
DURBAN:
Special Projects Unit in eThekwini Municipality (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal) which falls under the Deputy City Manager's office. The work mainly consists mainly (but not only) of office work on big projects, campaigns and events including the International Olympic Committee, Celebrate Durban, the International Junior Science Olympiads and COP 17 Conference (www.cop17durban.com). The main Activities and Task of the volunteers will be: * Assisting Special Projects team with conceptualization, planning and management of projects. (example: International Junior Science Olympiad - December 2011) * Assisting the Community with disaster relief efforts * Assisting with Mathematics, Science and technology Initiatives * Assisiting with the City Volunteer Programme, as needed. * Assisting as a translator and international contacts, with the languages that the volunteer can speak * Assisting with the general administration of the Special Projects Office The volunteers will work in collaboration and with the support of one of the Special Projects Managers. The manager may vary according to the project the volunteer will be involved in.
MAFIKENG:
SANGOCO North West (South African NGO Coalition). SANGOCO NW is a membership based organistion that draws its members from Non-Governamental organisations, community based organisations, youth and women foundations and people living with disability. SANGOCO's role is to support its member organisations through facilitating capacity building programmes, creating a platfor for engagement in policy and legislation processes The programmes include: 1. Research and Policy 2. Advocacy and lobbying 3. Capacity Building 4. Information dissemination 5. Networking Sectors Include: 1. Human Rights 2. Land and rural development 3. Environment and water 4. Health (HIV-AIDS) 5. Education The main activities the volunteers will be involved in are: * Support to the Youth desk and Women's forum * Support to the implementation of the Health Train 2012 in the North West Province (to be confirmed - http://www.southafrica.info/about/health/phelophepa_050104.htm) * Support in the Roll out of community vegetable gardens project in collaboration with Operation Hunger o Implementatation of Hippo Water Rollers in Ntsweletsoku, Madibogo and Setlangole villages o Building of Rainwater Harvesting Tanks in schools located in the same above areas. o Formation of community vegetables in the same areas o Assistance in implementation of youth security projects.
