Alhambra's Tales

Become enchanted by the charm of the stories and legends of the Alhambra and dive into the surrounding environment, discovering the “Source of hazel tree”

We are looking for young Europeans between 18 to 30 years for a youth exchange of six countries, with eight youth and two group leaders per country. The youth should be interested to get to know the Alhambra and the centre of Granada and to discover the secrets that this fortress retains, thanks to the romantic spirit of Washintong Irving and his book “Tales of the Alhambra”.
Thanks to this book we will get to know an Alhambra, which was a refuge of bandits in the nineteenth century and which was an inspiration for travelling writers and painters of Romanticism. In addition we will visit the last bastion of the Muslim Empire in the Iberian Peninsula, “Las Alpujarras”. This beautiful scenery is located in the south of the National and Natural Park of the Sierra Nevada.
The charm of the stories and the beauty of the surroundings allows us to discover the “Source of hazel tree”, that is next to the Alhambra, thanks to Ángel Ganivet. Moreover the history of our heroine of Granada, Mariana Pineda, who left her home, that was placed in “Paseo del Darro”, which is close to the Alhambra, to find the freedom to love, but she never came back. However she still lives in the memory of the people of Granada, as you can see in the names of the squares, sculptures and work of Federico García Lorca, our most famous writer.
Our version of Granada we could complete with an overlook or bell tower of a church, which are scattered throughout the Albaycin, but we choose “La Torre de la Vela”,that forms a part of the Alhambra’s bastion. On the top of this tower the thieves fished (to steal something with a rod) bunches during the wonderful sunset, which were admiring in the whole city.
