Legislative theatre is a forum theatre performance about a particular issue that ends in a crisis, which the audience is then invited to help solve.
Legislative theatre is rooted in ideas of participatory (or transitive) democracy. In this view, real democracy is a two-way exchange between legislator and voters, similar to Freirean education and Theatre of the Oppressed. The elector should not simply be a spectator, but a participant, a spect-actor. The relationship between legislators and voters should produce dynamisation, not catharsis.
In many European countries, primarily in the Eastern European region, corruption in politics has been a topic for decades. Finding solutions to deep-rooted problems is hard, and engaging the public’s interest when nothing has changed over the years is a problem when it comes down to voting percentages, civil engagement and policymaking.
We’re looking for participants aged 18+ who are actively engaged in their local communities, driven by a passion for positive change and are seeking innovative approaches to support and uplift their communities.
We are looking to partner with organisations active in the field of creativity, activism and civil rights, come from countries directly tackling the issue of lack of transparency, as well as those who are interested in develeping the topic further.
