Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, the Visionary Women’s Association (VIKA) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering women and youth by providing opportunities for their social, economic, and cultural development. Operating at both national and international levels, VIKA focuses on fostering gender equality, youth empowerment, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development through innovative projects and collaborations.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to support women and young individuals, particularly those facing barriers to education, employment, and social participation. We strive to build a more inclusive society where equal opportunities are accessible to all, empowering women and youth to achieve their full potential.
Core Activities and Expertise:
VIKA has successfully implemented over 30 projects under Erasmus+, European Solidarity Corps, and other national and international funding programs. Our areas of expertise include:
Gender Equality: Advocating for women’s rights, enhancing their leadership roles, and fostering awareness of gender-related challenges.
Youth Empowerment: Providing young people with skills in entrepreneurship, leadership, digital literacy, and intercultural communication.
Disaster Preparedness and Response: Developing innovative solutions for disaster resilience and recovery, including community preparedness programs, psychological support for survivors, and awareness campaigns to build a culture of safety and preparedness.
Cultural and Artistic Development: Addressing societal issues through arts and culture, including the development and staging of five original theater plays performed in municipal theaters, focusing on the challenges faced by women in different spheres of life.
Sustainability and Recycling: Educating communities on circular economy practices, including projects that transformed textile waste into modern designs and provided income opportunities for women.
Key Achievements:
Established Turkey’s first women-led psychosocial recovery team, which works in collaboration with Turkey’s official disaster response organization, AFAD. This team, accredited directly by the Ministry of Interior, actively contributes to disaster response and recovery.
Coordinated Erasmus+ projects such as KA1 and KA2 initiatives, focusing on youth development, cultural exchange, and sustainability.
Promoted Patchwork Art (Kırkyama Sanatı) through multiple projects:
These initiatives enabled many women to learn and master the art of patchwork, producing unique products that contributed to their household economies.
By utilizing patchwork, participants supported recycling efforts, revitalized a nearly forgotten traditional art, and created economic opportunities for themselves.
Reached over 20,000 children through educational arts and theater programs.
Implemented successful Erasmus+ projects, such as "International Digital and Eco Entrepreneurship Women’s Alliance", which enhanced digital skills and sustainable practices among disadvantaged groups.
Developed innovative educational programs like "Ezbere Hayır, Düşünmeye Evet" (No to Memorization, Yes to Thinking), which promoted critical thinking and teamwork among youth.
Target Groups:
Our primary focus is on women, youth, and NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) youth. VIKA supports individuals from diverse backgrounds to overcome social and economic barriers, enabling their active participation in community life.
Our Approach:
VIKA prioritizes sustainability and long-term impact in all its initiatives. We believe that every project not only addresses immediate needs but also opens new pathways to tackle emerging challenges, fostering innovative solutions for the future.
Vision:
Our vision is a society where women and young individuals have equal access to opportunities, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to social, economic, and cultural life.
Through collaborative partnerships and a commitment to mutual learning, VIKA continues to expand its impact by promoting intercultural dialogue, sustainable development, and resilience within local and international communities.
Enhancing youth workers’ capacity to guide young people in career planning, skills development, and employment.
