Smiltene centre secondary school (SCV) is located in provincial town – Smiltene, Latvia. In SCV learn children from Smiltene and neighbourhood municipalities, where economic development is thrown back, because of high emigration level. Smiltene develops fast, but still here are a lot of disadvantageous families. In Smiltene and neighbourhood municipalities are 25% disadvantageous and social defenceless families. SCV attend many children from unemployed, incomplete or large, but poor families, also disabled children, this is the reason why pedagogical and social work in this school needs special approach. However SCV develops very fast – it has good experience in cooperation, educational local and EU-related projects. Thanks to European Regional Development Fund project which was finished 2010, our school is only one in Valkas region (Smiltene, Valka and Strenči municipalities) with unique possibility to integrate students and teachers with physical disabilities in the school. Our school opened new professional program for learning of foreign languages (English, Spanish, German, Russian). Our school is socially active - volunteering, cooperation with other schools and institutions is good tradition and helps our society becomes better. We have pupil self-government which takes important part in the schools life. SCV has many extracurricular activities - such as choir, music group (playing guitar) and others. This school is not big, only 421 pupils, but this is why SCV is so special – it has its togetherness.
