P.O.A.A. Limassol Cyprus was created in 1966 and is the first organization for people with disabilities (Amea) established in Cyprus. The main purpose is to promote the demands of the disabled and to secure their rights as they exist in the United Nations amendment.

Today, P.O.A.A. can be found in all the districts of Cyprus. and has effectively contributed to the legislative harmonization amendments with the European Union that promote decent living for the disabled.

What is Disability?

It is considered any long-term physical, mental, spiridual or sensory damage that in combination with different obstacles can prevent full and effective participation in society or on an equal basis of others.

Despite the broad definition of disability P.O.A.A. focuses on physical disabilities irrespective of cause and coexistence with additional disabilities or other health problems. Therefore, we integrate members regardless of age with any physical disability in the upper or lower extremities which is considered permanent.

Currently at P.O.A.A. Limassol there are 900 active members signed up who benefit services from the organization.

Youth Movement “IFESTOS”

In January 2009, young members of P.O.A.A. activated and created the Youth Organization “IFESTOS”. The prime goal is to mobilize young members in social participation. In their own special way the youth are directed towards socialization, work training and restoration in “Breaking” the wall/hurdles of restrictions.

Informing the disabled people with their rights, supplying support and direction towards their safety and provide support and advice to them and their families on how to deal with their problems.

Organizing social outings and participation in social events, concerts and theatre in order to get the people with disabilities to be involved in social participation and incorporation.

Promoting people with disabilities for independent living and supporting those who are already incorporated.

Organizing informative and recreational events.

1).Home visits to the people with disabilities for their service and to seek what their needs are.
2).Membership into the organization and a members card is issued once all criteria are met.
3).Maintain cooperation with government, semi- government, and voluntary bodies to better serve
people with disabilities in terms of their application and their needs.
4).Notification in asserting the rights of persons with disabilities, Cooperation with the competent
bodies.
5).Informing members about the latest news concerning persons with disabilities, through texting,
phone calls, e-mail or via post. Informative meetings, with issues that concern persons with
disabilities.
6).Participation in European and Cypriot programs and is a member of European and Cypriot networks.
