One out of three women in Moldova had experienced at least one kind of domestic violence through out her life. This is more than 30% of Moldovan women and this is shocking.
Even though our modern mass-media is fulfilled with articles and reportages about gender based violence, even though numerous activities are made to raise awareness about domestic violence and the violation of women’s rights – the problem is not solved and the number of those being abused is still increasing. The biggest percentage of the abused women is from rural areas of the country. This is because they don’t have too much access to the information. Because urban women have access to the information they at least know about the existing problem and that their rights are violated, they know where they can get help from, who can protect them and others. Most of the rural families do not have internet access and some of them don’t even have a TV-set or a radio set.
