ISMEK- LIFELONG LEARNING CENTER

İSMEK is the largest lifelong learning center. İSMEK started its activities in 1996 with 141 trainees and 3 branches. Now, during 2017-2018 it has trained 2.619.530 trainees across 652 branches within 235 training centers. Every year we seek to provide training to 270.000 people and the total number of applicants has reached 4.640.061.
İSMEK is a common-public education that aims to build the knowledge and abilities of its residents of Istanbul, by improving their vocational and artistic knowledge. İSMEK also seeks to raise people’s understanding of culture and improve life experience. By doing so İSMEK seeks to help residents become an active producer, contributing to their standard of living and improving their employability.
İSMEK has become a model organization both nationwide, and worldwide. Many municipalities in Turkey have opened similar art and vocational training centers which have all been inspired by İSMEK. İSMEK has partners from all over the world. Many organizations and institutions from Germany, Holland, Sweden, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Syria, Morocco, Ethiopia, Dagestan, Guinea, Nigeria, Uganda and Kazakhstan have visited İSMEK and gathered information. They have all stated that they would like to establish similar structures and collaborate with joint projects. İSMEK has run various projects with these countries.
İSMEK also provides a variety of trainings for the disadvantaged groups from penal institutions, nursing homes, alms house and rehabilitation centers.
