Moldovan Institute for Human Rights (IDOM)

Mission:
The Moldovan Institute for Human Rights (IDOM) promotes democratic changes and contributes towards attaining international human rights standards by offering premises and tools for legal and institutional reforms for the well-being of each individual and the society at large.

Goals:
IDOM’s main goal is to contribute to education, promotion and protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms, as provided by the national legislation and the international documents.

Domains of activity:
- the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS,
- patient’s rights,
- mental health,
- justice and torture.

Objectives:
To promote education and awareness-raising on HIV/AIDS and human rights, reproductive rights, mental health and human rights, patient’s rights, and freedom from torture;
To contribute to the articulation of public policies and of a consistent legislative framework in the field of human rights protection;
To participate in the development of democratic institutions capable to identify and solve the existing problems;
To facilitate the dialogue between the state and society on protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms;
To support and protect the human rights defenders through continuing training, by carrying out exchange of experience within universities, organizing professional and advanced courses, working visits, collecting and distributing necessary scientific information etc;
To carry out scientific researches on fundamental human rights and freedoms in the areas mentioned above;
To provide free legal assistance to vulnerable social groups.

Background:
The Moldovan Institute for Human Rights is a nongovernmental organization from the Republic of Moldova founded in 2007 by a group of human rights experts with the aim to contribute to raising awareness, promoting and protecting rights and liberties guaranteed by national and international legal frameworks.
