Evenius Sonnenstrasse GmbH

The organisation for youth welfare and integration support Evenius Sonnenstrasse GmbH has been in existence since 1979 and is active in the Gleibergerland, a rural and densely wooded region north of Frankfurt/Hesse. The target group of our institution are adolescents and young adults aged between 14 and 27 with mental illnesses, behavioural problems and/or developmental delays. They live in a structured community according to their needs, requirements, wishes, affinities and resources. Living in our community promotes social equality, acceptance, fairness and tolerance. It offers many opportunities for development and new paths. Living and working form a unity. The multi-professional team is trained in pedagogy and craftsmanship. It maintains contact with the environment of the institution and develops assistance and concepts against problems and crises together with the residents. In the integration and youth welfare area of our institution, a total of 64 adolescents and young adults live in several groups, as well as approx. 75 in external supervised flats in the surrounding villages. The overarching goal of our work is the personal stabilisation of our residents, the support in their development into independent personalities and their educational, vocational and social integration into a democratic society. In addition to continuous support in everyday life, this includes commoSo w, experiential educational activities that promote exchange, democratic cooperation in the group and the integration of the individual.
We go on tent camps, explore the region with regard to its history, such as castle hikes, look for traces of mining, experience the forest and the animal world, or learn about environmental protection and nature conservation. The active engagement with regional cultural assets, traditional craftsmanship, up to sports and leisure activities (canoe trips, regional customs/festivals) are part of life in our community.
We believe that the engagement with own and foreign culture, history, nature and environmental protection is indispensable for the integration of young people into our democratic society and the European community.
The institution Sonnenstrasse is closely linked to the municipality of Biebertal, which has been twinned with European municipalities for many years. For the municipality of Biebertal, the European idea and the active commitment to exchange and a European understanding of values are important. It therefore supports joint projects that inspire young adolescents and adults for a strong, united Europe.
