CIRSES- Centro di Iniziativa e di Ricerca sul Sistema Educativo e Scientifico (Initiative and Research Centre on the Education and Scientific Systems) was established in October 1980. The Centre aims at studying the Italian and European Education and Training Systems. Over time, CIRSES has carried out many important initiatives and research studies, which played a significant role in the Italian debate on School-related issues. Research topics included the relations between public and private schools in Europe, school dropping out, gender diversity and sexist stereotypes in the teaching material and methods adopted by educational and vocational training systems, bullying and discrimination based on sexual orientation among young people, and competence-based learning.
In 2009, CIRSES started participating in European Union projects co-financed through the LifeLongLearning Programme. In particular, between 2009 and 2011, CIRSES coordinated as Lead partner and participated in several Leonardo da Vinci transnational projects – Multilateral Projects – Transfer of Innovation (TOI) Projects, including:

- Diversities@Work – Reducing LGBT Discrimination and Improving Diversity in Workplace. Counselling and Training Tools for Enterprises www.d-work.eu
Since 2014, CIRSES has been committed to designing and implementing various national and EU Projects in the framework of the new Erasmus+ Programme, placing special focus on themes such as respecting and enhancing diversity.
